General Information for Attendees

Congratulations on being accepted to the TEAMER / Coastal Studies Institute‘s 3-day, hands-on Deck Operations (Deck Ops) Workshop! This extended, in-person workshop will allow for deep participant engagement, integration of hands-on deployment scenarios, and increased access to experienced marine energy professionals, with emphasis on design-for-deployment, resiliency, and cross-discipline collaboration. Participants will receive a Deck Operations MTS Micro-credential at the end of this workshop.

Each participant should arrange their own travel plans to Wanchese, North Carolina. Bear in mind that the workshop will be held from Tuesday July 7 to Thursday July 9, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Travel Recommendations

When booking travel, try to follow general rules:

  • Use an economical and reasonable airfare (use your best judgment, we also don’t want you having to make 3-stops unnecessarily).
  • Use the most efficient means of transportation and, if applicable, rent an economical vehicle.
  • All travelers should consider the workshop dates in their inbound and outbound travel to claim reimbursement of lodging and per diem.

  • What to wear: Closed-toed shoes, steel toes if possible. Bring sunscreen. Plan to dress in layers to accommodate the highly variable temperatures at this time of year, no need for fancy clothes, casual is best. Also bring rain gear if you have it.

If you will be flying in, the closest major airport is Norfolk International Airport (ORF) in Norfolk, VA.

You’ll need to drive the rest of the way to Wanchese. You can rent a car at the airport or car pool; we’ve built a Google sheet to coordinate with other attendees if you would like to car pool.

Per diem rates for this destination—$74/day for Meals & Incidental Expenses (M&EI)—are assessed according to the standard GSA rates.
