Dr. Subhra Shankha Koley is a Research Engineer in the Rotating Machinery Development Section of the Machinery Department at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI). His interests focuses on experimental and computational fluid mechanics with applications across turbomachinery, cavitation, multiphase flows, marine energy technologies, fluid-structure interactions (FSI), heat transfer, and thermal energy storage. He has worked on various projects involving turbine and compressor aero-component design, and FSI studies.

Christopher Storey, Southwest Research Institute

Chris Storey is the Senior Manager for the Marine Structures & Engineering and Ocean Simulation Lab sections at Southwest Research Institute where he manages subsea, various Oil & Gas, Submersible, Navy and other industries design, analysis, fabrication, and testing projects. Chris was a team member in the design and fabrication of the pressure hull for the new Alvin deep submergence vehicle and recently served on the strain evaluation team for the submarine rescue vehicle for the U.S. Navy, the PRMS. His early career interests were in materials for pressure vessels and particular the characterization of Titanium 6Al-4V ELI mechanical properties, including creep, and the Krenzke and Kiernan method for spherical pressure vessel design, applying BPVC requirements and with pressure vessel inspections and state code compliance. Mr. Storey has also led several turn-key pressure chamber systems design, testing and initial commissioning projects. He is active in the areas of fatigue testing of subsea and other oil industry equipment involving strain gages, cryogenics and other extreme load cases. Mr. Storey’s current research interests include test and certification of manned/unmanned vehicles and support equipment.

Jiyong Lee, Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Jiyong Lee is an R&D Associate Staff scientist in Water Resource Science and Engineering group within the Environmental Science Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). His research focuses on understanding the physical mechanisms of hydrodynamics and hydrology in rivers and coastal regions, as well as quantifying the impacts of future environmental conditions on these processes in the coming decades. To address research questions, he employs physical laboratory experiments, analytical and numerical modeling, large-scale geospatial data from observations, global climate models, and remote sensing. At ORNL, he leads projects funded by Hydropower and Hydrokinetic Office (H2O) of the Department Of Energy (DOE) on reservoir sedimentation. The main goal of these projects is to quantify the capacity loss of reservoirs due to sedimentation under present and future climate conditions across the contiguous United States (CONUS). This work leverages bathymetric survey, remote sensing data, and coupled hydrologic, reservoir sedimentation, and hydromorphodynamic models. He also contributes to a Department of Defense (DoD)-funded project assessing future flood risk under future climate scenarios using a Two-dimensional Runoff Inundation Toolkit for Operational Needs (TRITON), an open-source and GPU-accelerated flooding model. In addition, he is developing a framework for assessing marine energy resources in the United States.

Jun Qu, Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Dr. Jun Qu is a Corporate Fellow and the Group Leader of Surface Engineering & Tribology in the Materials Science and Technology Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. His research interests include: advanced lubrication, surface engineering, materials tribology, nanostructured materials, and manufacturing. He has developed 2 ASTM standards, published 3 book chapters and 140+ peer-reviewed journal papers, and received 11 U.S. patents. Dr. Qu’s publications have received 9500+ citations (h index 52) and is among the top 100,000 of the most-cited scientists across all fields. Dr. Qu has received multiple national awards including 2020 UT-Battelle Distinguished Researcher Award, 2014 DOE Vehicle Technologies Office R&D Award, and three R&D 100 Awards or Finalists. He is a Fellow of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) and serves on the Board of Directors for both STLE and Wear of Materials.

Teresa Mathews, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Aquatics Lab

Teresa Mathews is a Senior Scientist and the Group Leader for the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Health Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Her research is focused on understanding how ecological interactions can affect the biogeochemical cycles of nutrients and contaminants in aquatic ecosystems. She works on various field and lab projects related to the biotransformation and bioaccumulation of mercury and other contaminants in aquatic food webs. She has worked on large scale projects to mitigate toxic algal blooms and to remediate contaminated sites using ecological manipulation approaches. She has also used ecological manipulation approaches to sustainably increase algal biomass productivity and stability for the biofuel industry through the use of recycled (waste) water and algal polycultures. Dr. Mathews has previously worked at the International Atomic Energy Agency in Monaco and the Institute for Radioprotection and Nuclear Safety in France on field and modeling projects related to radionuclide transfer in aquatic food chains. She received her B.A. in Biology and French from New York University in 1999, and her Ph.D. in Coastal Oceanography from the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences at Stony Brook University in New York in 2007.
