Coastal Studies Institute at Atlantic Marine Energy Center (AMEC)
Facility Overview
The Coastal Studies Institute (CSI) has been an active participant in the marine energy sector since 2010, when it began administering the North Carolina Renewable Ocean Energy Program (NCROEP). Based at CSI, the NCROEP advances interdisciplinary marine energy solutions across UNC System partner colleges, including NC State University, UNC Charlotte, Elizabeth City State University, and NC A&T University. CSI’s experience in advancing marine energy technologies is demonstrated through partnerships, projects, and a strategic focus on collaboration, research, and ocean testing.
CSI’s wave tank serves both as a research facility and an educational tool. It is utilized by researchers and students from various institutions to gain practical experience with wave principles and marine energy research, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications. The Wave Tank is part of a broader research initiative that includes collaborations with national laboratories and other research institutions.
