Facility Overview
Lloyd’s Register (LR) is an engineering and technical services organization wholly owned by the Lloyd’s Register Foundation, dedicated to supporting research in engineering and technology. Founded in 1760 as a marine classification society, LR now operates globally with a dedicated focus on ocean economies. Besides continuing to fulfill the original goals for which its marine business was established, LR is now at the forefront in understanding the application of novel technologies to future proof its clients’ businesses.
LR has a long-standing reputation for integrity, impartiality, and technical excellence. Traditional services such as Classification, Product Verification and Third-party certification offer clients confidence to operate their capital-intensive assets and businesses with the highest levels of safety and performance. In providing independent expertise in areas such as statutory compliance, verification, technical consulting, or other services, LR covers the full lifecycle for every type of asset including oil & gas, nuclear, marine and renewable energy (Wind and Marine) systems. Whatever the challenge, LR has consistently worked with their clients to support their business needs as a trusted partner, from the opportunity stage through to development and operations, into life-extension studies or decommissioning.
Based upon sound engineering principles and world class expertise, LR also contributes towards government regulations and international codes and standards. Specifically, with respect to standards related to the assessment of marine energy (ME) technologies, LR provided leadership in publishing the IECRE operational document that offers an assessment framework for marine energy converters through a technology qualification process. In 2021, LR became the world’s first IECRE ME renewable energy certification body (RECB), presently making it the only one that has a scope in Wind and Marine energy.
Certification of Renewable technologies include:
- Assessment and certification of novel technologies through Technology Qualification
- Assessment of ME converters against IECRE requirements
- Certification of ME converters against IEC standards
- Wind Farm Project certification against IECRE requirements
Expertise in Renewable technical standards include:
- International standards related to Wind and Marine energy (e.g. IEC 61400, IEC 62600, etc.)
- Leadership on ME International standards technical committees (e.g. IEC TS 62600-4) and the IECRE ME conformity assessment system (e.g. IECRE WG 360, etc.)
