Facility Overview

Noise Control Engineering (NCE) provides the capability and expertise to measure, characterize, and diagnose causes of underwater noise from marine energy generation systems. NCE has developed and implemented underwater noise test approaches to efficiently collect and process acoustic data in a wide range of marine environments. We have developed specialized measurement systems that, when combined with NCE’s experience and know-how, can be used to characterize underwater noise from any anthropogenic noise source. NCE has designed and implemented test campaigns for both short- and long-term deployments, working within logistical and environmental constraints to capture and process the required data.

NCE’s capabilities extend well beyond noise measurement. Our engineers understand the mechanisms that create underwater noise and the challenges inherent in any underwater noise project. Our knowledge and experience helps us to design assessment approaches that directly address those challenges and reveal not just the amount of noise produced but their underlying causes. NCE has demonstrated these capabilities repeatedly across a broad range of source types and marine environments.
