SUPPORT CATEGORIES
Modeling & Analysis
Examples in this category include various numerical, simulation and other expertise, mostly done in a computing environment, such as (but not limited to): computational fluid dynamics (CFD), extreme event modeling, fluid-structure interactions, finite element analysis (FEA), smooth particle hydrodynamics, turbine hydrodynamics, WEC hydrodynamics, bathymetry and site data analysis, resource characterization, performance metrics modeling & analysis, high performance computing (HPC), cost modeling & analysis, data visualization, technical specification design.
Lab & Bench Tests
Examples in this category include testing that occurs in a lab-based facility outside of a wind/water environment, such as (but not limited to): power integration, microgrids, grid interface, power take-off, structural designs, component design, composite blades, materials, dynamometers, generators.
Tank, Flume, Tunnel & Basin Tests
Examples in this category include testing that occurs in a lab-based (isolated from natural environment) marine experimental environment such as (but not limited to): wave tanks and basins, water channels and flumes, wave flumes, tow tanks, acoustic tanks, wind tunnels, cavitation tunnels, anechoic chambers.
Open-water/Field Tests
Examples in this category include testing in situ or in a marine experimental environment that is exposed to, and interacts with, the natural environment, such as (but not limited to): open ocean, lake, river, channel or tidal flow tests, offshore test sites and berths, field-based turbine test beds, vessel-mounted instrumentation, environmental interaction studies. These facilities are typically subject to greater logistical considerations due to size, permitting, seasonal variation, etc.
