Commercialization Facility Showcase

On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 11 a.m. Pacific, TEAMER hosted a virtual webinar to learn about TEAMER facilities offering Commercialization support capabilities—the types of support they can offer and the experts who carry out the work with applicants. Featured facilities included Factor, OpenSeas Technology Innovation Hub, yet2, Environmental Science Associates, and VentureWell. Some of the capabilities covered include Business Development & Strategy, Community Engagement, Customer Discovery, Financial Management Consultation, Funding Continuity and Opportunity Identification, IP Strategy, Market Identification, Marketing and Outreach, Proposal and Pitch Consultation, and Regulatory Navigation. Also discussed was the importance of incorporating commercialization throughout the development process.

Presenters


Jon Bonanno serves as the Managing Partner of Factor. His responsibilities are in leading the Leadership Excellence/Emotional Awareness & Development, Commercialization and Capital Access practice areas while overseeing all aspects of the organization. Jon has been of service to hundreds of global clean economy CEOs on topics of governance, capital formation, corporate culture, financial innovation and leadership advisory. Mr. Bonanno is also of service as Special Advisor to clean economy investors, portfolio managers and grant makers (governments and non-profits).

Prior to Factor, Jon was the CXO of the New Energy Nexus/California Clean Energy Fund, where he mentored and coached portfolio companies and educated and enabled clean energy entrepreneurs to use and benefit from Opportunity Zone finance. Prior to the New Energy Nexus, Bonanno co-founded and served as the CCO & Board Director of Empower Micro Systems, a power electronics firm focused on solar, energy storage and EV applications, which was sold in 2017 to SunGrow. His professional career includes thirty years of entrepreneurship, investing and company building experience with Interbill (internet billing), Global Internet Billing (internet billing), Cool Earth Solar (concentrated solar power systems), HelioPower (solar utility), Earth Class Mail (SaaS for the postal industry), and Principle Power (floating offshore wind foundations). Today, his portfolio includes Enzinc, Noon Energy, Commonwealth Fusion Systems, ChargeNet Stations, IVY Energy, Elexity, Stable Solar, SolarAcademy, PILA and SunCast Media.

Jerry Cronin is the Executive Director the OpenSeas Technology Innovation Hub at Old Dominion University. He works with entrepreneurs, researchers, industries, organizations, and communities to identify problems; discover and de-risk innovative solutions; and develop and deploy sustainable, scalable solutions into the marketplace. As a DOE Power Connector and part of the TEAMER program, he works with both startups and organizations on the adoption and commercialization of marine renewable energy technologies.

Jerry’s professional background is applying creativity and systems thinking to solving business and operational problems – creating and launching new programs/products, improving mission attainment, and going after new markets. His experience spans commercial and government work in both domestic and international settings. He balances a solid understanding of science and technologies, with the process, human, implementation, and business elements required to turn them into sustainable solutions. In addition to his current work at ODU, he provides mentorship and consulting to companies in both the US and Europe.

As a Strategic Account Manager at yet2, Tom Pavilon manages relationships with several clients including the US Government. He is a coach and mentor to entrepreneurs through his work with the Clean Tech Open and other Accelerators.

He is a growth marketing and innovation executive who has held management positions in the specialty chemical and life sciences industries. He has also delivered a broad palette of consulting services to life sciences, chemical, industrial and financial services companies. He is particularly noted for leveraging customer discovery to identify unmet needs and quantifying economic value to fuel organic growth in industrial and life sciences companies.

Tom earned a master’s degree in business administration with concentrations in marketing and finance from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University and a bachelor’s degree cum laude in chemical engineering from Ohio University.

Cameron Fisher, Director of Marine Infrastructure at Environmental Science Associates, brings nearly 30 years of specialized experience in marine permitting and environmental compliance. His career spans a broad range of environmental laws and policies governing marine infrastructure, where he has established a reputation for successfully advancing first of-their-kind and technically complex projects. Cameron led the permitting of the first tidal energy device deployed in Washington State waters, permitted more than 20 subsea linear infrastructure projects, and has been a key contributor to offshore wind development efforts. His expertise lies in navigating the complexities of environmental regulations, with extensive experience preparing natural resource assessments under NEPA, conducting essential fish habitat evaluations under the Magnuson-Stevens Act, and managing Endangered Species Act Section 7 consultations with federal and state agencies.

Jesse Flanagan serves as Director of Global Venture Programs at VentureWell, providing support to early stage innovators across fields of science and technology. He leads VentureWell’s work with international multilateral funders including the UN Food and Agriculture Organization and International Fund for Agricultural Development.

Jesse regularly serves as a mentor & coach for early stage entrepreneurs in science and technology. He works closely with founders to refine and validate business models, develop early commercial strategy, and develop product roadmaps grounded in customer realities.

Prior to VentureWell Jesse spent eight years in the agricultural development sector managing customer discovery work and designing large scale research pilots. He holds a Masters of Public Policy from the University of Minnesota.
